Heavy Metal Around the Globe
TRACK STREAM: Putrescine – That Mountain
Imagine coming to consciousness somewhere in a dark, dank, crumbling tunnel. There are hundreds of insects, spiders, centipedes, and more crawling all over you. That’s the impression I get from the swarming riffs.
ALBUM STREAM: Changeling/Everlasting Light – Split
A cohesive split where both bands hook you and won’t let go, this is a release worthy of thirty plus minutes of your time, over and over again.
TRACK STREAM: Kõdu – Sügispime
I’m made to feel quite uneasy at many points on the album, hackles raised. One can hope there is more to come from this young band. In the meantime, strap in – it’s quite a ride!
TRACK PREMIERE: Sepulcros – Marcha Funebre
Though the album title translates into “empty”, the music is full of power and presence. Perhaps it is how the ultimate Emptiness expels itself.
VIDEO PREMIERE: The Noctambulant – Blackened Swords of Satan
[The album] cuts sharply through the uninspired masses of extreme metal, forward thinking, but calling forth the masters of the past. Raise your horns and bang your head.
Demon King – The Final Tyranny
So, as a fan of blackened metal and also The Artisan Era label, I can confidently say that Demon King’s The Final Tyranny is a very satisfying listen.
A Scent Like Wolves – Mystic Auras
Compared to all the cliché bitching, moaning, and depression of the metalcore and emo of the 2000s and 2010s, this mature approach is a breath of fresh air.
TRACK PREMIERE: Feed Them Death – Minima Moralia
The track starts out with belligerence, as Void’s bellows hit the listener square in the chest, and then devolves and evolves into a racing, grinding, destructive cacophony of purpose.
Olde – Pilgrimage
“One small world, in decline.” – In Defiance
Sacred Reich – Ignorance/Surf Nicaragua/The American Way
That was how things rolled back in the day folks, along with a lot of tape trading, pen pals and obscure handwritten zines that would be distributed by the most strange ways…
ALBUM STREAM: Domestic Terror – Domestic Terror
What I really love about the album are the nasty, dissonant riffs thrown into the mix throughout. That’s what really gets it all cooking for me.
Summoning the Lich – United in Chaos
Summoning the Lich unleashes United in Chaos – a record that takes the standard expectations of melodic and technical death metal and injects it with an insane amount of adrenaline, blazing through a labyrinth of incredibly strong guitar riffage and next-level vocals.
Stortregn – Impermanence
The sound is fresh, but certifiably Stortregn.
portrayal of guilt – We Are Always Alone
Who is currently doing a better blend of anti-music? Go ahead…I’ll wait.
Carrion Bloom – Heretic Howl
Rugged and abrasive, the album comes at you full on from the moment you press play.
Wharflurch – Shitslime
Have we heard this genre mixing before? Duh. Of course. Here’s the thing though, the changing of said genres is absolutely seamless.
Spire – Temple of Kronos
…what I discovered was an offer of a selection of different styles and approaches under the black metal banner, fitting together cohesively like the inner gears, springs, and screws of a monstrous timepiece.
Pupil Slicer – Mirrors
Mirrors by Pupil Slicer is a highly enjoyable and unbelievably powerful collection of twelve tracks that demand and deserve attention.
Tribulation – Where The Gloom Becomes Sound
The album brings the realization that each track can stand alone and they could all be introduction points to the listeners depending on the specific tastes the next victim holds.
Pursuit – Two Singles
File this one under bands to watch.
FEATURE: Sacrilegious Crown – Culto II: Under The Blasphemous Spirits
“Raw black metal is not for everyone, of course, but its strength lies in its ambiguity.”
Pessimista – Uma saída
Through the extra time allowed on a full length, the artist really spreads their wings, taking the time to develop each feeling, each howl, each riff, each drum stroke.
Abiotic – Ikigai
Igikai is the product of a group of insanely talented musicians that craved nothing more than to craft their vision into art with palpability, with longevity, and with true passion.
ALBUM PREMIERE: Rampancy – Coming Insurrection
The album is ethereal, but also urgent.
