Heavy Metal Around the Globe
Tyakrah – Wintergedanken
Imagine a soft snowfall covering the corpses littering a battlefield at the end of an epic struggle and you’ll have some sense of the esprit of the album.
Ezerath – Overture: The Heir Apparent
The album is certainly a cohesive whole with an epic feel. There are dark moments, triumphant moments, emotional moments.
1000 Yard Stare – Parasites
While I don’t think Parasites fully captures everything they were live, it is a solid album with some exceptional moments. (SEE THEM LIVE!!!!)
Lark – Lark
Thick and melodic, this EP is a treat.
Greytomb – Monumental Microcosm
Sections are slow and oozing in it’s progressive speed
Hamka – Multiversal
Mixing symphonic majesty, superb shredding, and ethnic folk instruments
Dreadful Fate – The Sin of Sodom
This demo is classic thrash at its best
Shrine of the Serpent/Black Urn – Split
Doom heads will be right in their element. Just don’t dive in expecting eternal happiness, for here there is none. Only bleakness awaits.
Five Horse Johnson – Jake Leg Boogie
This album carries a kind of blues swagger that is just gritty and makes you want more.
Kayak – Seventeen
Ultimately, what could have been a dizzying set of technical exercises actually breathes with life and vigor as a result of the melodic lines that make the whole affair quite entertaining and well worth a listen.
Corpsia – Genocides In the Name of God
It’s always good to hear a fresh take on some old thrash with modern twists.

Ofdrykkja – Irrfärd
We might get crazy for a minute, wanna burn your church. The next minute, we are singing you a love song in your native tongue.
Circle of Salt – Suffer the Cold
Adhering fairly tightly to the supposed rules of black metal, Circle Of Salt manage to also convincingly pull elements from other parts of the heavy metal universe and assemble them expertly.
Arallu Interview
Hayduke interviews Butchered, founding member of Jerusalem based Arallu.
Top Black Metal EPs by I.Gos
My top album of the year and top EP of 2017 is Schammasch – The Maldoror Chants: Hermaphrodite.
Cadence Calling – Dark Sentiment
The heaviness is definitely strong in this one.
George’s Best of 2017!
This year saw a lot of releases by bands that I am already a fan of, and as such, my list this year has more in common with Rolling Stone than with, let’s say, the Quietus.
Diarchy – Here Lost We Lie
This album shows how versatile this band can be, all while sticking to a sound they’ve made as their own.
Hamferð- Támsins likam (Review and Interview)
“This is a sign of a band being in no hurry to make hollow statements but taking the time they need to create and shape their art before presenting it to the rest of the world.”
Centripetal Force – Eidetic (EP)
Will make what I predict to be an unprecedented play garnering the praise of thrashers far and wide.
Pakasteet – Pula
Then, add in the sound of someone destroying your mother’s kitchen.
Malokarpatan – Nordkarpatenland
The result, for this listener, is a dark journey of madness where you are occasionally allowed to see some moments of brightness.
