Heavy Metal Around the Globe
Ecstatic Vision – Raw Rock Fury
On their Bandcamp site, Ecstatic Vision says that their sound is 35+ minutes of the dirtiest sounding recordings since Kick Out the Jams. I agree with this statement if full.

White Willow – Future Hopes
Nevertheless, there is plenty of ear candy here by which to be thoroughly engaged and awestruck. Certainly, the band’s likely influences are evident– Pink Floyd-ish guitar work here, mid 70s Genesis-esque keyboards there– but the band offers up a very modern sound, using elements of traditional prog but eschewing the technical fireworks and endless solos for the sake of emphasizing atmospherics and soundscapes.
Wolf Down Interview
Back in March, frequent collaborator Steve from the Art of B interviewed German hardcore punk band Wolf Down.

Keitzer – Peace Was Never An Option Track Stream
Check out our stream of the vicious Peace Was Never An Option.
The Wizards – Full Moon in Scorpio (plus Interview)
Sometimes bands that so clearly worship another time and place in musical history end up as pale shadows of their idols. Not so with The Wizards. They hold there own. Full Moon in Scorpio blew me away right from the opening riffs.
In Thousand Lakes – Age of Decay (plus Interview)
While the music is often quite beautiful, it never feels quite safe. There remains an ominous air to it, which is a tough combination to pull off.
Caina/Cara Neir – Split
Caina, initially a one man project, now a two man project, and Cara Neir, a two man both play styles of extreme music which are hard to pigeon hole. As this split clearly shows, it doesn’t matter in terms of quality.
Condenados – The Tree of Death
Together, they produce a melodic, classic doom sound that is easy to get into. Keep listening and you’ll soon find yourself howling along with the chorus.
Footage of a Yeti – Purging the Human Condition
This isn’t your Harry and the Henderson’s lovable bigfoot. They hate and they love bringing destruction.
Herem – III
What separates Herem from the others is Valendis Suomalainen. Her haunting growls make the skin crawl like worms and beetles devouring a graveyard corpse.
Logic of Denial – Aftermath
Complex and technical guitar lines led by absolutely insane drum tracks that are almost impossible to predict. Guttural, venomous vocals set the pace for the real brutality this album has to offer.
Novembers Doom – Hamartia
Right from the beginning, there’s absolutely no mistake that this is November’s Doom. It has the same Dark and Doomy feel. Exactly what you’re expecting.
Chaos – All Against All
These guys can hang with the best of the Thrash giants in my opinion, rivaling sounds of Exodus and Testament with ease.
Echotime – Side
True appreciation of everything Side sets out to do will require quite a commitment.

MRTVI – Negative Atonal Dissonance
With a broad brush stroke, MRTVI paints a decidedly finite portrait on the ever growing and ever evolving landscape of contemporary black metal.
Ghost Bath – Starmourner (Review and Interview)
I feel that this album is going to be divisive on several levels. It’s not a true “anything”. It has elements of so many different genres, that I think it’s going to appeal to anyone with an open mind regarding what genres belong in heavy music today.
Red Moon Architect – Return of the Black Butterflies
It’s my first Red Moon Architect experience, and I’ll admit I wasn’t expecting this to be so melodic. Everything is very dark and gloomy.
Nad Sylvan – The Bride Said No
At the heart of the songs are the sophisticated yet engaging melodies, delivered by Sylvan’s slightly pained alto.
Lonely Robot – The Big Dream
Prog fans, please come out of the shadows if you haven’t already. Music like The Big Dream should reinforce your conviction to the idea that you were never wrong to love what you love in the first place, the world be damned.
Rage and Frustration Round-Up – June 17, 2017
25 albums worth a quick review. (Some are actually worth more than a quick review)
