A day before their third album was set for release, I talked with Serena Cherry and Liam Phelan of Svalbard. What unfolded was a conversation about the sexism that exists within music publications, sketches of the band members as dogs, the final shows before the Covid lockdown, and the spectacular graphics of video games in 2001.

The riffs are chunky and the grooves have a good momentum to them, but this kind of music is usually all about the lyrics and the emotion behind their composition and delivery.
While the band is musically ugly, confrontational, and catastrophic, it is ultimately just the Mad Max vehicle for their message.
This genre-defying album throws all emotions into the mix to really bring home the message.
Overall, if I were to describe Propaganda with one word it would be “stimulating”; the lyrics made me think, the music made me move, and I was never bored.
